ROSIE SYCKS
she/her/hersI’m Emma “Rosie” Sycks, a San Francisco-based product designer who blends creativity with data and research to tackle complex challenges and drive impact. I believe good design starts with asking questions.
Currently, I am a UX Designer and Research at IBM working on an AI code assistant and the PowerVS cloud platform. I leverage my passion for storytelling with my technical knowledge of human-centered design and research to advocate for my users.
Outside of work, I love picnicking with friends in San Francisco’s many parks, shopping second-hand, visiting the library, and hiking in Northern California. I would love to start a small business and write a book one day.
Background & Education
I am a graduate of The Georgia Institute of Technology where I earned a Bachelors of Science in Literature, Media, and Communication with a focus on Digital Media + Interaction Design as a Stamps Presidents Scholar.
My work experiences—which span the IT, E-commerce, film & media, non-profit, and consumer goods industries—include design and research roles at companies such as IBM, Spanx, Procter & Gamble, and Electrik Skin Products.
Key traits
I love crafting and sharing stories to communicate ideas, deliver concepts, and engage teammates and partners.
I provide optimism & encouragement to my teammates so we can deliver delightful experiences together.
Ideation is one of my biggest strengths and favorite parts of the design process! I love thinking about the big picture, brainstorming, and strategizing.
I continually practice the skill of aligning teams around the larger business goals and visions, while also considering user requirements and needs.
From collaborating with global teams to supporting multiple products and initiatives at once, organization is a key pillar in how I work.
Rather than passively waiting to be told what to do, I demonstrate a bias for action by taking initiative to find new opportunities for improvements, make change, and close gaps.
